Having Hardness in Water?
Water plays a vital role in our daily life, but not all water is safe or suitable for use. Two common problems faced in water usage are excess iron content and hard water. To ensure healthy, clean, and safe water, we provide combined solutions using Iron Removal Filters and Water Softeners.
WHO recommends acceptable limit for water hardness is 300 mg/L (as CaCO₃)

What is Hardness in Water or Hard Water?
Hardness in water is caused by the presence of dissolved calcium (Ca²⁺) and magnesium (Mg²⁺) ions. These minerals are naturally picked up by water as it flows through rocks and soil.
Problems Caused by Hard Water

Damage to plumbing systems and heating appliances due to scale buildup.

Reduced lathering of soaps and detergents, leading to higher consumption.

Formation of white scaling on taps, pipelines, geysers, and utensils.

Causes dry skin and hair issues.

Makes clothes look dull and feel rough after washing.

-
Gravel Bed: The lowest layer supports all filtration media, maintains bed stability, and allows uniform water flow during filtration and backwashing.
-
Anthracite Media: A carbon-based layer that improves iron removal and enhances filtration efficiency by capturing fine particles and organic impurities.
-
Silex Quartz: Hard, naturally occurring silica sand that acts as an efficient medium for trapping suspended solids and improving water clarity.
-
Treated Sand: Processed sand layer that removes dissolved iron, turbidity, and suspended matter, resulting in clean and visibly clear water.
-
Green Sand: Manganese-coated layer that oxidizes and filters out iron and manganese compounds, enhancing colour and taste quality.
-
Softener Resin: Ion exchange resin that softens the water by removing hardness-causing calcium and magnesium ions, ensuring smooth operation of plumbing systems and appliances.
*You may not need all these types of Filtration Media, the actual requirement and design will depend upon your water quality.

Benefits
Applications
Hard and iron-rich water can damage taps, tiles, geysers, and washing machines. With our filter + softener system, residents enjoy safe, clean, and soft water for drinking, bathing, and daily use.
Quality water is essential for food preparation, dishwashing, and guest comfort. Our system ensures crystal-clear, scale-free, and iron-free water, improving taste and maintaining spotless kitchenware.
Hospitals, schools, and colleges need reliable water for hygiene, laundry, and laboratories. Treated water prevents stains, scale, and health risks, ensuring a safe environment.
Industries use large volumes of water in production processes. Our solution protects machinery, improves process efficiency, and reduces downtime caused by scaling and iron deposits.
Boilers and cooling towers are highly sensitive to water quality. Our filter + softener combination prevents scaling, corrosion, and iron fouling, ensuring maximum efficiency and longer equipment life.
Working Principle
Many borewell and well waters in India not only have high iron but also hardness (excess calcium and magnesium). This causes rust stains, scaling in pipes, white deposits on taps, and damage to appliances.
To solve both issues in one system, we use a two-stage setup: Iron Removal Filter + Water Softener.
Stage 1 – Iron Removal Filter (IRF)
-
Oxidation of Iron – As water enters the Iron Removal Filter through the multiport valve, dissolved iron (Fe²⁺) gets oxidized into visible rust particles (Fe³⁺).
-
Filtration through Media – The rust particles, along with manganese and other impurities, are trapped in the specialized media (Manganese Dioxide/Greensand/Birm).
-
Supporting Gravel Bed – A gravel layer at the bottom supports the media and ensures smooth water flow.
-
Clear Iron-Free Water – The water that comes out is free from iron and stains, making it safe for the softener to treat further.
-
Easy Cleaning – Periodic backwashing through the multiport valve keeps the media fresh and effective.
Stage 2 – Water Softener
-
Ion Exchange Process – The iron-free water then flows into the Water Softener tank filled with softener resin beads.
-
Removal of Hardness – The resin exchanges hardness-causing calcium and magnesium ions with sodium ions.
-
Soft Water Out – The result is soft, silky water that prevents scaling, increases soap lather, and protects pipelines, geysers, and RO systems.
-
Regeneration Cycle – After some time, the resin gets saturated with hardness ions. A salt solution (brine) is used to recharge the resin so it can continue softening water.
Why Pair Iron Removal Filter with a Softener?
1
Iron in water (Fe²⁺/Fe³⁺) causes reddish stains on clothes, tiles, and fittings, and also gives water a metallic taste and odor.
2
If iron-rich water enters a softener directly, iron deposits clog the resin bed and reduce its efficiency.
3
An Iron Removal Filter (IRF) is installed before the softener to remove excess iron and manganese.
4
This ensures:
-
Longer life of softener resin.
-
Better water quality.
-
Continuous supply of iron-free, soft water for domestic and industrial use.

How to Operate
Operating an Iron Filter & Softener is easy and requires simple routine steps:
-
Normal Operation (Service Mode) – Keep the system in “Filter/Service” mode for daily use. Water passes through both iron filter and softener stages.
-
Backwash (Iron Filter) – Every few days, switch the iron filter valve to “Backwash” mode to flush out trapped iron. Then rinse for 2–3 minutes before returning to service mode.
-
Regeneration (Softener) – Once the softener resin is saturated, perform regeneration:
-
Add common salt to the brine tank.
-
Shift the valve to “Regeneration/Brine” mode.
-
The system will recharge the resin and restore its capacity.
-
Return to Service – After rinsing, move the valve back to “Service” mode for regular use.
Add-on:
Oxidation Chamber

The Oxidation Chamber is an optional pre-treatment unit designed to enhance iron removal efficiency. In this chamber, Manganese Dioxide (MnO₂) is used as an oxidizing agent to convert dissolved ferrous iron (Fe²⁺) into ferric iron (Fe³⁺), which can be easily filtered out in the next stage. This process ensures faster oxidation, improves water clarity, and extends the life of the iron removal media.
Maintenance Guide
-
Backwash the iron filter regularly (every 5–7 days or as needed).
-
Regenerate the softener with salt whenever hardness returns.
-
Refill the brine tank with salt as required.
-
Replace media and resin every few years depending on water quality.
-
Inspect valves, pipes, and tanks for leaks or blockages.

Pro Tips for Long-Term Performance
-
Always use clean, non-iodized salt for regeneration.
-
Test water quality to decide correct filter size and regeneration frequency.
-
Pair with a pre-sediment filter to prevent clogging from sand or mud.
-
Schedule annual servicing to maintain efficiency and extend system life.
