Inside the RO Membrane
-
Center Tube:
Located at the core of the membrane element, the center tube collects the purified water (permeate) after it passes through the semi-permeable layers. It is made from durable, food-grade material designed to handle high pressure and ensure clean water flow. -
Feed Spacer:
Thin mesh-like plastic layers placed between membrane sheets that help maintain proper flow channels for raw water. They reduce fouling and pressure drop, ensuring even water distribution throughout the membrane. -
Semi-Permeable Membrane:
The heart of the RO system — this ultra-thin layer allows only water molecules to pass while rejecting dissolved salts, metals, and impurities. It delivers high rejection rates for TDS, hardness, and contaminants, ensuring pure water output. -
Permeate Corner:
This section guides the filtered water toward the center tube. It ensures smooth collection and transport of the permeate without mixing with the rejected concentrate. -
Glass Fibre Wrap:
The outer protective wrap made of reinforced glass fiber provides structural strength and pressure resistance. It protects the membrane sheets from mechanical stress and maintains long-term performance even under high-pressure operation.

Working Principle
-
Raw Water Inlet
Water is drawn from the source — such as a borewell, municipal supply, or surface water — and enters the RO system through the raw water inlet. At this stage, the water may contain suspended particles, hardness, chlorine, or dissolved salts. -
Pre-Treatment Stage
Before the water reaches the RO membrane, it passes through several pre-treatment filters that protect the system and improve purification efficiency:-
Sand Filter: Removes visible impurities like sand, silt, and suspended solids, reducing turbidity.
-
Activated Carbon Filter: Eliminates chlorine, color, odor, organic matter, and chemical residues that could damage RO membranes.
-
Water Softener and/or Antiscalant Dosing: Prevents scaling and mineral deposits on the RO membrane caused by hardness salts (calcium, magnesium).
-
-
Micron Cartridge Filter (5 Micron or Less)
Captures fine particles and ensures only clean, clear waterreaches the high-pressure section. -
High-Pressure Pump
After pre-treatment, the water is fed to a high-pressure pump that increases the pressure enough for water molecules to pass through the RO membrane.
This is the driving force of the entire process — the pressure separates pure water (permeate) from rejected impurities (reject or brine water). -
RO Membranes (Core Filtration Stage)
At the heart of the system are the RO membranes, made of semi-permeable material.
Under high pressure, these membranes allow only water molecules to pass through while rejecting up to 95–99% of dissolved salts, minerals, and contaminants — including TDS, fluoride, arsenic, lead, and bacteria.
The result is pure, low-TDS water suitable for industrial or domestic use. -
Post-Treatment (Optional Stage)
Depending on your water quality and application, additional post-treatment units can be added:-
UV Sterilizer or Ozonator: Ensures microbiological safety by killing bacteria and viruses.
-
Remineralization Filter: Adds back essential minerals (like calcium and magnesium) and balances pH to improve taste and health value.
-
-
Storage & Distribution
The treated pure water is stored in hygienic storage tanks and distributed through pipelines for its intended use — whether it’s drinking water, industrial process, or packaged water filling.
The reject water (brine) can be partially reused or safely discharged depending on system design.
Cost Estimation

Available in PP Spun, String Wound, and Carbon types, these cartridges act as the first stage of filtration. They effectively remove dust, rust, suspended solids, and chlorine before water reaches the RO membrane, ensuring long membrane life and better performance.
Antiscalant
A liquid chemical that prevents the formation of scale and mineral deposits on the RO membrane surface. It helps maintain high flow rates, improves water recovery, and reduces frequent membrane cleaning or replacement.
Membrane Cleaning Chemical
Specially formulated cleaning solutions (both acidic and alkaline) used to remove fouling, scaling, and organic deposits from RO membranes. Regular cleaning keeps the membrane active and ensures long-term efficiency.
RO Membrane
The heart of the RO system — a semi-permeable membrane that removes dissolved salts, heavy metals, and impurities at the molecular level. Available in various capacities and brands to suit domestic, commercial, and industrial RO systems.
Jar Cleaners
Cleaning agents formulated for RO pre-filters and storage jars. They remove slime, algae, and mineral deposits from jars and filter housings, keeping the system hygienic and odor-free.
Minerals
High-grade remineralization compounds such as Calcium Chloride, Magnesium Sulphate, Potassium Bicarbonate, and Sodium Bicarbonate — used to add essential minerals back into purified water, improving its taste and health value.
Test Kits
Easy-to-use water testing kits for parameters like TDS, pH, hardness, chlorine, and iron. They help monitor raw and treated water quality to ensure proper RO plant operation and compliance with standards.
Filtration Media
A complete range of filter media including Sand, Gravel, Activated Carbon, Anthracite, Green Sand, Birm, Katalox Light, and Softener Resin. Each media type performs a specific role — from removing iron and odor to softening and polishing the treated water.
